Around 1989. Husband was driving, mother-in-law and myself in the car. We were in the south hills in Eugene, Oregon, on our way to my husband’s cousin’s house for dinner. (We were about half a mile from the house.) It was getting on dark but still light. “Dusk.” We all saw it at once, pulled over a bit and stopped to looks. Way down below us was a huge chevron shaped UFO (for lack of a better term) with large brilliant white lights all around the triangle, or boomerang shaped object.
We asked each other: “What is that?” and watched it for a couple of minutes. It seemed to be slowly turning in place. We all agreed it was strange. Not a blimp, plane, etc. Nothing like any of us had seen. My mother-in-law was a pretty practical and skeptical person, and she was at a loss for words.
Whatever it was, who knows. Although this area of Lane County is known as a mini-hot-spot for UfOs, and, in fact, there was another incident at my husband’s cousin’s house involving a UFO and a related psychic episode.
I saw this UFO about thirteen years ago in west Eugene. We were at a bar-b-que (summer, don’t recall the month.) Standing around outside, talking, late afternoon/early evening. Typical summer month in Eugene — so it probably was July — humid, cloudy, not hot sunny bright weather.
I remember I was standing in a circle with others, and I’m looking up at the sky. Way up there, very high up, I noticed a cigar shaped object moving steadily across the sky. What was so odd about this was the both the color — turquoise — and its brightness, or luminescence. It seemed to be glowing from within. (As opposed to light, like the sun, reflecting off it.) I kept watching to make sure the entire object was indeed just this one color, which would be very odd for any airplane. No markings, no other colors, no lights. No wings. Just this lit from within turquoise color. The color never changed, nor the shape.
The object was certainly strange enough, but equally strange was the non-reaction of the people I was with. They saw me watching the sky, but didn’t ask me what I was looking at. When I asked them to look at the slowly moving, luminous turquoise object, they simply . . . didn’t. Not one person looked up. In fact, some looked down at the ground, as if this was an embarrassing moment. I wasn’t yelling out “Hey!! Look at the space ship full of aliens from Mars!!!” I simply said, “Hey guys, look at this plane up there…I’ve never seen one like it before.” Or something to that effect. Something very simple and mildly curious.
I’ve never seen an object like that before, or since. Cigar shape, lit from within, turquoise, no markings or appendages, moving very slowly — slower than a plane — and very high up in the sky. I suppose it could have been a blimp, but, it seemed too far up for a blimp, also, the lit from within aspect was very strange. I don’t know if we would have heard a noise from the blimp that high up — if it was a blimp — but I didn’t hear a noise.
Who knows what that thing was? A true UFO in the sense it was unidentified, as well as unusual. I am not suggesting it was an alien spaceship (though, you know, . . . anything is possible) and the object could have a prosaaic explanation. But refusing to look up at the sky to make that determination for yourself — that is just about weirder than the object itself.
